INTERVIEW BY LASALLE COLLEGE OF THE ARTS:
3rd November 2009
1] Have you joined any rap competitions? Did you win?
BRUCE (B.B.S): I haven’t joined any rap competitions but i won a pie eating contest once, just kidding. seriously, no I haven’t, it just doesn’t seem right for me.
JAYE (MC FOO): As for me, i have joined my first and only dj scratching battle way way back, and i took back the gold prize. Other than that, i have not joined any other competitions.
Now we hope to compete more though!
BRUCE (B.B.S): YEAH FOSHO!
2] What inspired you to do music?
BRUCE (B.B.S): What inspired me to make music was the thought of living a life free of boundaries and boredom. Music is what I love and what I live for. In a way music gives me freedom.
Freedom to express what I feel and what I want to achieve.
JAYE (MC FOO): What he said!
3] Who wrote the lyrics for the album “SUPER JUICE”?
JAYE (MC FOO): Both me and Bruce wrote the lyrics for the album. Our styles for lyricsm are very different from each other. That’s where the “soul” and the “freshness” of our lyrics comes from.
BRUCE (B.B.S): OUR NEW FRO FLOW BABY!
4] Where did you record the album? With what equipment?
BRUCE (B.B.S): We recorded our album in our studio. Soul Crest Studio AKA Jaye’s House LOL.
JAYE (MC FOO): Haha that’s right! The best place to record and chill out in the world! Ah you know, we use the usual home studio set-up.
We also got other musicians to come over and record and collaborate with us for the album.
5] How long did you take to complete the album?
JAYE (MC FOO): Uhhhh…
BRUCE (B.B.S): Don’t mind him, he’s stoning again. We started working on our songs in July and we finished it on October. So roughly about 5 months.
JAYE (MC FOO): OH YES, and mostly on weekends where we gulped down jugs of coffee and worked on tracks all night.
6] How long have you been rapping?
BRUCE (B.B.S): I’ve been raping people for 3 years…..ohhhh rapping. I’ve been rapping since I was a freshman in high school. that was about 6 years ago so yeah, I’ve been rapping for six years now.
JAYE (MC FOO): “RAPPING”! He’s more experienced then me. Hahaha! For me? Well around a year! For deejaying, i would say about 5 years! Phew.
7] Places you have performed at (RAP/DEEJAYED)?
JAYE (MC FOO): Well i have deejayed in L.A in-front of a crowd over 4000 people. Also all over Singapore at venues such as BLU JAZ CAFE, Breakdance Battles/Showcases and other festivals, gigs, parties and High School! Ahhh, those were the days.
As for rap? So far only once in High School, at parties and recently in “LOST|FOUND[nation]” AT LASALLE COLLEGE OF THE ARTS.
BRUCE (B.B.S): I’ve rapped mostly in my school during my high school years. I usually joined my school’s music festivals and “high school club nights” (similar to high school dances or prom. except the school get’s turned into a CLUB!).
8] What can you say about yourself? For example, School, Music Background etc.
BRUCE (B.B.S): I’m Bruce Subia from the Philippines. I enjoy reading fantasy novels and history books which are some of my influences in writing. I like to write- articles, reviews, poems, songs, observations
and I might try to write a book in the future. I’m a Hip-Hop head. I love the Hip-Hop culture (No, not the “Hip Hop” that you see on MTV not the people with the “bling bling” with nice cars and throwing-money
and “poppin champagne bottles”. I’m talking about real Hip-Hop. The culture free from ignorance and hypocrasy. My main influences for music production are Ryan Leslie, Just Blaze some Cool n Dre here and there,
Dr. Dre (of course), Dog Child and more. What about you MC FOO?
JAYE (MC FOO): I AM MC FOO MADE IN SINGAPORE! Yeah i am into the feel good aspect of hiphop and not into the typical gangster shit! People come up to me a go “why you aint rapping bout chicks and gangster shit and all that bling?” and i say “Cause i aint a gangsta, pimp, playa or whatever you may say!” So i shall stay this way. Bringing back HipHop to life, to a new beginning! My main influences would be EMINEM, EPIK HIGH and RIP SLYME.
and yeah i do like to breakdance, drum, strum, play and produce music plus all that funk, soul & jazz! I’ll cut the crap and keep it short… NEW FRO MATTER FOR LIFE YO!
BRUCE (B.B.S): NEW FRO MATTER FOR LIFE!!!
Wicked! I guess this was before Muppet joined yea?
it is actually fun to be on music festivals because i love music so much ..
